you’ve got a smile that could light up this whole town

I decided to do a fun blog feature where i feature a few of my favorite things.  like oprah, minus the obvious differences (you know, she’s famous.  i’m definitely not.  she makes a lot of money.  i work part time.  she lives in chicago.  i live in (near) nashville.  obvious differences).

I changed purses the other day, and realized i had 6 tubes of…lipgloss/chapstick/youknowwhatimean that goes on my lips–and all 6 are essential.

1. Burt’s Bees [my very favorite. perfect for chapped lips  or not chapped lips.  just lips in general]

2. Burts Bees Passionfruit with SPF [Burt's Bees!  With Sunscreen!]

3&4. MAC Plushglass in Posh it Up [shown here in russian red...i wish i could wear red. but posh it up will prob look good on anyone; it's very subtle. and shiny!] and MAC Plushglass in Viva Glam V [i like this one a lot, though i prefer posh it up]

5. Nivea Lip Care [smooth.  light.  smells good.  love it.]

6. Aveda Lip Glaze in Rubisparks [i only wear this on special occasions, yet it lives in my purse]

Any other great lip things I’m missing??

this safe place where we can hide away

Being somewhat type A, I love lists.  I also love to read.  Put those two together, and you get a list of books I will always, always recommend.  (And, side note: maybe I should go back to the classroom – 3/10 are Young Adult!)

In no particular order:

1. Searching for God Knows What by Donald Miller [Blue Like Jazz is his bestseller, but I read Searching once a year and it changes for me every time.  I can't wait to read his new one!]

2. My Sister’s Keeper by Jody Picoult [Makes me cry and cry and cry...but it is so well-written.  Fantastic book!]

3. Traveling Mercies by Anne Lamott [how can you not want to read it with quotes like these:

"...music is about as physical as it gets: your essential rhythm is your heartbeat; your essential sound, the breath. We're walking temples of noise, and when you add tender hearts to this mix, it somehow lets us meet in places we couldn't get to any other way."

"Grace is the light or electricity or juice or breeze that takes you from that isolated place and puts you with others who are as startled and embarrassed and eventually grateful as you are to be there."]

4. My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers [not so much a book as a devotional, but I read it off and on every year.  Not consistently every day, but I've been reading it since 2004.  It always seems to meet me right where I am]

5. The Jessica Darling Series by Megan McCafferty [i. love. these. books.]

6. Watermelon, Rachel’s Holiday,  Angels, and Anybody Out There by Marian Keys [warning: Anybody Out There sent me into ugly cry convulsions.  for real.]

7. The Wounded Healer by Henri Nouwen [difficult to read and wrap your mind around, but so great]

8. The Uglies series by Scott Westerfield [you're just going to have to trust me on this one]

9. Praise Habit by David Crowder [i read so many books that it's rare for me to say this, but this book changed my life.  not groundbreaking, but simple and profound]

10. My newest favorite is The Hunger Games (trilogy? series?) by Suzanne Collins.  [trust me on this one too.  it's great.  even if it it for young adults!]

What about you?  Read anything good lately?  Anything that’s a MUST read?
